Final Year Undergraduate Project:

Reimagining the Museum

For this project I explored museums as an institution, what place they have in modern society, and how they could be adapted to ensure they stay relevant and valuable in the future.

I designed a speculative solution that uses the built environment to educate visitors on the history of the city around them. It comprises of a wooden structure, that highlights specific architectural features in the surrounding area, and provides information on their significance.

For the digital output I created a scale CAD model of my design, as well as speculative marketing materials, to further contextualise the project.

I used the CAD model to stress test my design to ensure it was structurally sound, as well as take measurements from it to ensure my physical model was accurate.

This project spanned a range of skills, including CAD modelling and rendering, physical manufacturing processes, as well as research and managing a year-long independent project.

I was lucky enough to showcase this project at New Designers in London, and the Edinburgh College of Art Degree Showcase in 2023.

For the physical output I created a 1/10 scale model of the structure, as well as a section of it at full scale. This helped me model the full extent of the structure, as well as test what materials and techniques I would use if created at full scale.
